Ashtanga Yoga Series

There are six series in Ashtanga yoga. Starting with Primary series, then Intermediate series, and then the four Advanced series, A, B, C and D.

The Primary series is also known as Yoga Chikitsa, meaning Yoga Therapy. The primary series of Ashtanga yoga is for the cleansing, healing and realignment the body.

The Intermediate series is also known as Nadi Shodhana, meaning Nerve Cleansing. Nadi is the Sanskrit term for the energy pathways through our bodies. Nadi Shodhana purifies, opens and clears these energy pathways.

The four Advanced series, Advanced A, Advanced B, Advanced C and Advanced D, are also known as Sthira Bhaga. Each asana in the Advanced series integrates strength, flexibility, grace and humility and is designed to be a preparation for the body to receive the next asana.
