Shall I be naughty again?

Posted on September 22nd, 2006 under Ashtanga Diary

There’s not meant to be asana practice today according to the Ashtanga tradition, it’s moon day after all, but I do feel like practicing some sort of yogasana today.

Mostly, I want to play around with supta kurmasana now that I’ve been informed to get the arms in position first before crossing the feet. I just have to figure out how to cross the feet without the use of hands or the aid of a teacher.

This makes me want to take classes again. I’d love to get some adjustments for supta k… not that I’ve officially been “given” the pose by a teacher, but then again, it’s my practice and I believe I’m ready for it. I’ve got solid wrist binds in marichy A and B, my hamstrings feel sufficiently stretchy enough for it and my hips open enough. After all, I’ve done it in two practices now and haven’t hurt myself in the process. In fact, my back always feels better after supta k.

That’s so weird of me… justifying my own actions about giving myself supta k when there’s no one to justify it to! But I do feel a little naughty for doing it, maybe that’s where I feel the need to justify my actions.

Oh who cares!

So anyway, I might be naughty and do some play yoga tonight.

You won’t be alone. I will practice today, too. And I will practice on Saturday, because on Sunday I will be on my mother’s birthday, which means no yoga on Sunday and Monday. I don’t want to have such a long break.

I think we should be flexible. From time to time a day of, that’s it how I interprete the rule not to practice on Saturday.

I’m generally so lazy that I take moon days off! Any excuse…

Just be cautious. I know it sounds like superstition, but I have found that when I practice on a moon day, I tend to get injured. This has happened 3-4 times — just little things. Weird!

That’s true, it’s probably an urban legend, but I heard injuries happen more around moon days too.

For me, moon days make me either lose concentration or lose energy. Either way, I don’t have to worry, because it’s past 9 pm, so no more practice for me.

Looks like I observed moon day afterall!

Here’s something that might make you feel better (depending on what time you practiced)… the moonday was actually over at 4 a.m. Friday morning, so by the time you practiced that evening, it wasn’t “technically” a moonday…

Although traditionally, the entire day is taken as a rest day.
