Yet another missed morning practice

Posted on September 5th, 2006 under Ashtanga Diary

Yup, slept in again. This time I didn’t even have the silent debate with myself. The alarm went off, I turned it off, rolled over and back into dreamland. I just have to get to bed earlier! I can’t be going to sleep at 12:30 am and expect to wake up at 6:30 am, my body needs a couple more hours than that!

Despite my missed 6:30 am practice, I did actually practice. I started at 9:30 am, so it’s technically still a morning practice.

The practice itself was stronger and a little more flexible than yesterday’s. Didn’t add in anything new today, thought I’d let my body adjust to the new additions before giving it more “food for thought”.

Nothing really spectacular happened in practice. There’s been no major progress, if anything, I’ve gone a little backwards since switching to morning practices. I managed a couple more vinyasas than yesterday, but I’m not back at my normal rate of vinyasas between sides.

The back feels a little tweaky so I’ve had to take it easy on the backbends and up dogs. I managed to hold shirshasana for 20 breaths, 20 very wobbly breaths even with bandhas on. Umm.. that’s all I can remember about practice! Not exactly exciting stuff.

Richard made a comment about my enjoyment of my practice. I mentioned briefly in a previous post that I’ve been going through some big changes. While I don’t wish to discuss my personal issues on this particular blog, I will reveal that one of the changes I had made is a conscious decision not to have another “bad” practice ever again. There are no “bad” practices, just the perception of “bad” practices and I believe the types of emotions I attach to a “bad” practice is so negative, not resourceful and not useful, so I will never allow myself to indulge in them again… and if I do and blog about it, you better slap me upside the head for doing so!

Tonight I’ll make myself go to bed at 10 pm so I can actually wake up when the alarm goes off… And yeah, the photo in the navigational menu would be me, just before getting myself off to a yoga class.
